NOAA Fisheries has established a voluntary speed restriction zone, or Dynamic Management Area (DMA), eleven nautical miles southwest of Nantucket to protect a group of six right whales that were spotted in the area on March 20, 2018.
Mariners are requested to avoid the area or transit at ten knots or less in the boundaries of the DMA which is in effect immediately through April 4 2018.
