Leaky Valve Keeps Pilgrim Plant on Low Power

Although the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth was brought back online Sunday following Thursday’s blizzard, the plant is still not operating at full power.

Entergy Pilgrim spokesman Patrick O’Brien says a faulty valve in the feedwater system that provides hot water to the reactor was discovered 15 minutes after it started to leak and shut down. O’Brien says the faulty line will be capped and repaired in April when the plant is shut down for re-fueling. While that line is being capped, the plant will operate at 20% capacity.
