Summer tourism season has been profitable for many businesses

September 2, 2014 (HYANNIS) _ As the Cape transitions from the main summer tourism season to the late summer and shoulder seasons –merchants are checking their receipts from the past eight weeks.

Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce CEO Wendy Northcross says most sectors of the tourism industry have been up this summer.

The rooms tax revenue from June in Barnstable County was up 6% from the year before – July was even with 2013 and August web site traffic to the chamber’s travel sites are up.

Northcross says summer on the Cape really has “two chapters”–the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day –and the time after Labor Day into the fall.
