Reward paid to confidential informant in stolen oyster case

April 2, 2014 (HYANNIS) _ A confidential informant who helped police solve the case of stolen oysters and equipment last year from beds in Dennis and Marstons Mills was paid a reward yesterday.

The East Dennis Oyster Farm and the Barnstable Association for Recreational Shellfishing offered $1,000 each in the case.

Last week – Michael Bryant, 37, of West Yarmouth was indicted by a Barnstable County Grand Jury on six counts.

He’s charged with larceny of property and shellfish sales violations. Also charged in the thefts was Joseph Vaudo, 52, owner of Joe’s Lobster Mart in Sandwich.

He was charged with receiving stolen property and various shellfish regulation violations.

Vaudo pleaded guilty last week in Barnstable District Court and was ordered to pay $6,200 in fines.

The rewards were delivered to Barnstable Police yesterday – who will turn the money over their informant – who will remain unnamed.
