July 10, 2012 (BOURNE) _ A $426,000 state grant will allow the Barnstable County 9-1-1 sytem to expand.
The money from the State Executive Office of Public Safety and Security comes as demand increases for the regional service provided at the sheriff’s headquarters on the military base.
The grant will be used to upgrade the computer system that is being pushed to capacity.
The state has been encouraging regionalization of services – including public safety dispatch.
At this point – 8 of the 15 towns on Cape Cod are using regional dispatch services at the sheriff’s office – with more expected in the near future.
Sheriff Jim Cummings says the grant will help them handle the increased demand. #
