Adm. Richard Gurnon says government officials ordered the federally-owned T.S. Kennedy to the mid-Atlantic.

It will serve as an off-shore hotel for relief crews working to clean up the destruction. The 540-foot ship will depart for Elizabeth, New Jersey sunday for a monthlong stay.

It will act as a self-contained hotel for emergency workers, power crews and others helping get the area back on its feet. the vessel can hold 700 people, including 30 crew.

Gurnon says workers can get a hot meal, a hot shower and a warm bed without stressing the storm-ravaged areas.
