Officials say the bridge on Ocean St. heading into Hyannis Port will remain closed for at least another week.

Annual car show expected to draw more than 50,000 spectators
June 14, 2013 (HYANNIS) _ One of the largest car shows in New England will take place Sunday on Main Street in Hyannis.
Ppwards of 60,000 spectators are expected to view the 400 cars that will be on display.
The vehicles will line main street from 8:30 a-m to 1:30 p-m – with styles ranging from muscle cars to antique classics.

Barnstable opens small section of Sandy Neck for off-roaders
June 14, 2013 (BARNSTABLE) _ Off-roaders will be able to access a small stretch of beach this weekend at Sandy Neck in Barnstable.
According to the town’s website – they’re able to open one-half a mile of beach to vehicles.
The entire off-road section of the beach was closed last Friday because of the nesting piping plovers.

Iconic writer's Provincetown home up for sale
June 13, 2013 (PROVINCETOWN) _ Norman Mailer's children have put the two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning author's longtime Cape Cod home up for sale.
The author's oldest son, film producer Michael Mailer says they're asking $4 million for the waterfront Provincetown house.
Mailer lived there from 1990 until his death in 2007.

Provincetown make warrant arrest in Boston
June 13, 2013 (PROVINCETOWN) _ Provincetown police detectives arrested a man on rape charges yesterday in his Boston home.
With assistance from Boston Police – the Provincetown officers took John McNulty, 53, into custody.

Brewster man indicted in church arson
June 12, 2013 (BREWSTER) ) _ The Brewster man accused of torching a Cape Cod church has been indicted by a Barnstable County grand jury on arson charges.
Adam Finnegan, 29, was indicted on April 26th and arraigned on May 17th. He pleaded not guilty and is being held on $100,000 bail.
Finnegan will return to court on July 10th for a pre-trial.

State gaming commission issues new applications for southeastern Mass.
June 10, 2013 (MASHPEE) _ The state gaming commission has released the first application in a 2-phase process for companies that want to build a commercial casino in southeastern Massachusetts.
The non-refundable $400,000 fee and initial paperwork is due September 30th.

Shark prompts temporary beach closure Sunday in Orleans
June 10, 2013 (ORLEANS) _ Officials had to close down Nauset Beach in Orleans yesterday because of a confirmed siting of a great white shark.
A senior Orleans town lifeguard spotted a dorsal fin about 150 yards off the beach at about 10:15 a.m. Sunday.
The shark was estimated to be between 12 feet and 13 feet long and was heading south toward Chatham.

Mashpee man accused of pulling out gun in local bar
June 3, 2013 (MASHPEE) _ A Mashpee man has been accused of pulling out a gun in a Mashpee bar Saturday night and threatening to shoot someone.
The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. at Dino’s Sports Bar on Route 151.
The suspect, identified by police as William Branch, 23, was captured a short time later on Route 151.

Fire destroys Dennis mobile home
May 28, 2013 (DENNIS) _ Dennis firefighters were called out early this morning to a blaze in a mobile home at Campers Haven on Old Wharf Road.
The fire broke out at 5 Kelly Drive just before 4:30 a.m. and completely destroyed the structure.

May 22, 2013 (WELLFLEET) _ Police on the Outer Cape say a recently completed gun buy-back program was a big success.
Wellfleet Police Chief Ronald Fisette says 36 weapons were turned in between May 11th and May 19th.
That included 10 rifles, 7 shotguns, 13 handguns and 6 pellet guns. one-thousand rounds of ammo were also turned in during the voluntary program.

Nantucket jury returns guilty verdict in rape case
May 17, 2013 (NANTUCKET) _ A Nantucket Superior Court jury has convicted a Jamaican national in the rape of a woman in 2002.
Nigel Morris, 42, was first arrested 11 years ago in the rape of a young woman from Ireland.

May 15, 2013 (TAUNTON) ) _ The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe unveils a new design for a resort casino it hopes to build in Taunton.
The architectural renderings were released last night at a meeting of the Taunton City Council.

Dog involved in domestic dispute found alive

Herring Cove's parking lot future considered
April 10, 2013 (PROVINCETOWN) _ The Cape Cod National Sseashore Advisory Commission Subcommittee is considering a proposal that would move Herring Cove’s north parking lot back from the water.
But the plan would also still allow cars to pull into parking spots facing the water.
The beach’s parking lot and the 1950’s era revetment were heavily damaged by storms last year. the National Park service is conducting a review of how to make long-term repairs.
Herring cove is one of the most popular beaches in the seashore.

Dog rescue leads to drug bust at community college
April 10, 2013 (WEST BARNSTABLE) The rescue of a dog from a locked car by Barnstable police yesterday leads to a drug arrest.
Members of the Street Crimes Unit were on patrol in the parking lot at Cape Cod Community College when they spotted a dog locked inside a Honda Civic that was in direct sunlight.

Yarmouth police investigate second fatal drug overdose death in 2 weeks
March 21, 2013 (YARMOUTH) _ Yarmouth police say the death of a local man is the latest in a string of drug overdoses in the town.
The body of Joshua Brown, 23, was found at 50 Lake Road in West Yarmouth Monday afternoon. Investigators say his death was related to illegal drug use.
It was the second death involving illegal drug use in Yarmouth in the past two weeks.

Indian casinos see improving revenues
February 28, 2013 (MASHPEE) _ A report says indian casinos posted higher revenue in 2011 despite a weak economy.
The study, "Casino City's Indian Gaming Industry Report," says revenue rose 3%, to $27.4 billion.
Indian casinos account for about 43% of total casino gambling revenue, just slightly less than 45% for commercial casinos.

Pilgrim plant shut down following issue with pumps

An Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission panel has set a catch limit of about 1.4 million pounds for the season.

September 18, 2012 (CHATHAM) _ A crew of researchers and fishermen are tagging great white sharks off Chatham this week in an unorthodox way.

July 26, 2012 (MASHPEE) _ A meeting planned between Mashpee officials and leaders of the Wampanoag Tribe to talk about the tribe's deal with the state to build a casino has been canceled.
Selectmen Wayne Taylor says they were notified by a representative of the tribe this morning that they would not meet as planned on Friday.
It was unclear why the tribe canceled.

July 25, 2012 (DENNIS) _ Coast Guard rescuers pulled 8 people from waters off Cape Cod after their boat sank about 2 miles east of Dennis Tuesday.
No one was injured.
They received a distress call at about 1 p.m. from people who said their 21-foot pleasure vessel was taking on water.

The state Office of Labor and Workforce Development says the unemployment rate in Barnstable County was 5.6% last month.

Falmouth man arraigned in fatal April shooting
JULY 24, 2012 (FALMOUTH) _ An 18 year old Falmouth man accused of fatally shooting his stepfather this past April was arraigned on a murder charge yesterday in Barnstable Superior Court.
Devante Fernandes was indicted earlier this month. He pleaded not guilty during yesterday’s hearing and is being held without bail.

The Department of Public Health says the man, who is in his 60s, lives in Middlesex County, where no triple-e has been found in mammal-biting mosquitoes this year.
