Two Hyannis men charged with cocaine trafficking
HYANNIS - On Tuesday, Barnstable and Yarmouth Narcotics Detectives completed a three month invetigation into alleged cocaine distribution which resulted in the arrests of Angel Cordero, 33, (top photo) and Paul Jennette, 57, (lower photo).
During the investigation, Detectives made undercover purchases of cocaine from Cordero in Hyannis. Detectives also learned that Cordero was being driven to Boston by Jennette to obtain his cocaine.
During the early morning hours of Tuesday, Detectives initiated surveillance on both Cordero and Jennette in Hyannis. Detectives subsequently followed the two suspects from Hyannis to Boston and back. At approximately 1145AM, a motor vehicle stop was conducted on Yarmouth Rd in Hyannis. A subsequent search by a Mashpee PD drug detection dog, resulted in the seizure of approximately 79 plastic baggies of crack cocaine. The street value of the cocaine is approximately $5000.00. Both Cordero and Jennette were arrested and charged with Conspiracy to Violate the Controlled Substance Act and Trafficking in Cocaine (18-36 grams).

Woman injured when car rear-ends police cruiser in work zone

WEST DENNIS – On Wednesday morning a work crew was cutting the pavement on Route 28 to make way for a new gas line.
The road was reduced to one lane in the work zone with the eastbound lane closed.
Two Dennis police officers were directing traffic and traffic cones and an unmarked Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser with emergency lights activated blocked the work zone just east of Trotting Park Road across the street from the Ezra H. Baker School.
Shortly after 11 a.m. the elderly female driver of an eastbound Pontiac Grand Prix apparently failed to notice the officer, cruiser and cones. Nearly striking the police officer who jumped out of the way, the vehicle smashed into the back of the cruiser pushing it forward some 30 feet where it came to rest about 10 feet from the work crew.
The woman sustained a leg injury that was apparently not life threatening. She was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Dennis Fire Rescue.
No other injuries were reported.
Dennis Police are investigating.

Sheriff's dispatcher cited for helping save life

BOURNE - Barnstable Fire Department’s new chief, Francis Pulsifer, details events leading to this commendation he presented last week to Barnstable County Sheriff’s telecommunicator Micaela Pope. Peter Thomas, right, Pope’s boss and the Sheriff’s chief deputy for emergency communications, listens attentively. The Onset resident’s expert medical instructions enabled bystanders at the other end of the phone to keep a heart attack victim alive while paramedics were rushing to the scene. That action included maintaining the patient’s airway. “Without these aggressive emergency dispatch instructions to provide bystander CPR,” Chief Pulsifer’s citation reads, “and the pre-hospital treatment that was administered to this patient, the outcome would have been gravely different.”

Telecommunicator Pope and Chief Pulsifer are joined at the podium by the newest member of Pope’s family, 15-month-old Owen. When Owen is old enough to read, his mom will be able to share this from the citation’s final paragraph: “Barnstable’s Fire Department is very fortunate to have such skilled and dedicated emergency dispatchers working for this District. Congratulations [to Micaela] and keep up the great work!” Barnstable County Sheriff James Cummings had a similar take on events, pointing out the dichotomy inherent in emergency dispatch. “It can be very stressful,” Cummings acknowledged, “but on those occasions when you help save someone’s life, very gratifying as well.”

Owen seems to be calling for a point of order, but in fact he’s reacting to mom being called to the head of the class. That’s his grandparents and Micaela’s parents – Edward and Wendy McCormack of Lakeville – enjoying both the ceremony and their toddler grandson’s antics. The heart attack victim, incidentally, is an Upper Cape Regional Tech teacher who was in class this day and unable to attend the ceremony. He had some mild bouts with short-term memory loss, according to Chief Pulsifer, but even those have subsided.
