HYANNIS
 - Police are investigating a daring broad daylight robbery of a Hyannis shopper. Sgt. Sean Sweeney tells CWN, a woman was shopping at the Border's Books on Route 132 and returned to her car where her mother was waiting.

Thats when a white male in a dark hoodie allegedly entered the car and told the victim not to move. He then fled with a bag full of electronics and an undetermined amount of cash. The victim was not injured.

Barnstable Police attempted to track the suspect with a K-9 dog toward the Stop and Shop (below) but the dog lost the scent. At right: police take a statement from the victim (identity protected).

Anyone with information is urged to contact Barnstable Police at (508) 775-0387.

Yarmouth Police release detailed description of recent chase and crash

WEST YARMOUTH
– The Yarmouth Police Department Wednesday released the following detailed description of the car chase and subsequent two-car crash that occurred on Sunday. See story here.

Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer Christopher Marino attempted to stop a motor vehicle for erratic operation on Buck Island Road in West Yarmouth at approximately 1:16 a.m. Patrol Officer Marino observed the eastbound 2001 white Honda Accord drifting back and forth in and out of its travel lane. The vehicle then turned excessively wide right on to Higgins Crowell Road crossing in to the oncoming lane and without signaling. Patrol Officer Marino activated the emergency lights and siren of his 2008 fully-marked Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser but, instead of stopping, the vehicle drove off at a high rate of speed south on Higgins-Crowell Road and turned right on to Route 28 westbound toward Hyannis.

Patrol Officer Marino followed the vehicle at a safe distance and reported the suspect vehicle’s speed to be approximately 80 miles per hour. Fellow Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer Mary Gibney, operating a semi-marked 2008 Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser, arrived in the area to provide back up and was nearly struck head on by the suspect as he continued to travel westbound on Route 28. Yarmouth Police Patrol Sergeant Michael Bryant, who was out on street supervisor patrol operating a fully marked 2008 Ford Expedition police cruiser, monitored the pursuit and notified the Barnstable Police Department. The suspect vehicle continued to fail to stop and at one point reached speeds estimated to be 90 to 100 mph.

Yarmouth Police Officers with emergency lights and sirens fully activated remained at a safe distance behind the suspect vehicle and Barnstable and Massachusetts State Police Officers supported and monitored as needed. When the suspect vehicle entered the intersection of Route 132 and Independence Park it collided with another vehicle. Yarmouth, Barnstable and State Police Officers assisted the suspect and the three other injured people at the scene. The operator of the suspect vehicle was identified and smelled of alcoholic beverage. He told Police Officers at the scene that “he was drunk.” He was placed under arrest and transported to Cape Cod Hospital.  He submitted to a blood test and the blood is being held as evidence. After being treated for minor injuries he was brought to Yarmouth Police Headquarters and arraigned in the Barnstable District Court on Monday.

A Command Staff review of the entire incident has revealed that the total length of the failure to stop was 4.8 miles and lasted 4 minutes. The failure to stop occurred at a time of day when traffic was light on roadways in a primarily commercial district on dry pavement and in clear weather conditions. All action by Yarmouth Police Officers conformed to Massachusetts Police Accreditation Standards and Yarmouth Police Department Vehicular Pursuit Policy and Procedure.

The three other people injured by the suspect have all been treated and released from Cape Cod Hospital.
