Crash snarls afternoon commute along Willow Street
YARMOUTH
- A two-vehicle crash snarled the afternoon commute out of Hyannis along Willow Street. The crash happened just before 4 p.m. at the Higgins Crowell Road intersection. 

A Ford Focus sedan reportedly rear-ended a Robert Our work truck. The Focus then caught fire.

A Dennis Fire ambulance on the way to Cape Cod Hospital came upon the scene and was able to knock down the fire before continuing to the hospital.

It appears there was only one minor injury from the crash.

SUV vs tree in Harwich


HARWICH
- At about 6:25 a.m. Wednesday the driver of a Toyota Highlander headed west on snow-covered Love Lane in Harwich lost control on a curve. The vehicle clipped some concrete posts and smashed into a large tree. At the time of the call, the crash was thought to have occurred in South Dennis near the Eagle Pond Rehabilitation and Living Center and Dennis Police and a Dennis Fire Department ambulance and engine responded. Crews extricated the driver and transported her to Cape Cod Hospital with unknown injuries that did not appear to be life threatening. The location of the crash was actually near 50 Love Lane in Harwich and Harwich police officers were on scene to control traffic and investigate the accident. Traffic was halted briefly until the Dennis ambulance and engine cleared the scene.

Coast Guard air crew responds to ailing crewmemeber

BOSTON -
A helicopter crew based at Air Station Cape Cod, airlifted a 39-year-old crewman from an Isle of Man-flagged tanker about 250 miles southeast of Cape Cod Tuesday.

The Coast Guard Fifth District Command Center, based in Portsmouth, Va., received a call around 6 a.m., from the 600-foot tanker British Harmony crew, reporting crewman Alan Moran was experiencing severe abdominal pains.

The Fifth District Command Center requested the tanker crew head north toward Cape Cod where an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod was expected to meet them around 1:30 p.m.

After the Jayhawk crew airlifted the crewman they planned to take him to the air station where an ambulance will be waiting for transport to a local hospital.

Man assaults roommate with 30-pound dumbbell
YARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Police Department reports that on Monday, February 1, 2010, at 10:50 p.m. the Department received an emergency 911 call reporting a fight and serious injury at 140 Cranberry Lane in South Yarmouth.
 
Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers Sean Brewer, Kevin Antonovitch and Christopher Van Ness along with Patrol Sergeant John Lanata arrived at the home and found a 45-year-old man in a back bedroom covered in blood and suffering from injuries to his face and head. The officers secured the scene and members of the Yarmouth Fire Department treated the victim and transported him to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
 
An on-scene investigation determined that an argument had occurred between two intoxicated roommates and that one had struck the other in the head with a 30-pound solid-steel exercise dumbbell.
 
The suspect, William J. Demers, 45, was located inside the residence and placed under arrest.  He was subsequently transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters and scheduled for arraignment yesterday in the Barnstable District Court charged with Felony Assault and Battery while Armed with a Dangerous Weapon.
 
Members of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit assisted in the investigation and provided crime scene photography and evidence management.
