Woman complete Yarmouth PD self-defense course

WEST YARMOUTH - Tuesday night a group of women successfully completed a six-session self-defense class hosted by the Yarmouth Police Department at its headquarters training room in West Yarmouth.
Yarmouth Police Lieutenant Patrick Carty (at left in top photo) and Barnstable Police Officer Robert Bitinas (at right)—both with extensive experience in the Israeli Krav Maga self-defense system—taught the class.
According to Wikipedia, Krav Maga has a philosophy emphasizing threat neutralization, simultaneous defensive and offensive maneuvers, and aggression. Krav Maga is used by Israeli Defense Forces, both regular and special forces, and several closely related variations have been developed and adopted by law enforcement and intelligence organizations worldwide.
The women in the Yarmouth class were trained in the following areas: combatives, self-defense law, edged-weapon defense, gun defense, blunt object defense, multiple attackers, and personal awareness.
The following women received certificates on Tuesday night: Susan Childs, Donna Hill, Jane Hurley, Daniella Lackey, Kathy Molinski, Wendy Ohlson, Debbie Olmsted, Jennifer Olmsted, Janet Radziewicz and Courtney Shay.
A Thursday evening class will be graduating this week as well.
