CAPE COD - Despite a little bit of a delay some wild weather is still expected to develop during the evening and overnight. Watch this area for continuing coverage. NWS Snowfall reportsNWS local storm damage reports Midnight update: 7 inches of snow in Bourne and still coming down. Radar shows the snow starting to rotate back out to sea but will it persist for a few more hours. Peak wind gust in Provincetown of 49 MPH. NStar crews still working scattered outages mainly on the upper Cape. In most instances snow laden tree limbs are taking wires down. In one case arcing wires also sparked a small brush fire. At the height of the storm some 10,000 customers were in the dark, again mostly on the Upper Cape. 8:30 p.m. update: We told you about the heavy snow on the upper Cape and now we can show you. CWN's Eric Tinglof. reports: "Shortly after 7 p.m., on East Falmouth Highway in front of Kenyon's Market a Toyota Camry ran off the road into a tree. The driver was treated and transported to Falmouth Hospital with minor injuries. The photo (above) shows how poor the weather has become in Falmouth where the Fire Rescue department and the Police department have become extremely busy with wires down, motor vehicle crashes and an unusually high number of medical aid calls." Elsewhere numerous fender benders continue to reported on the mid and upper Cape. Additional scattered power outages are keeping NStar crews busy.
7 p.m. update: The change over to snow has spread all the way to Provincetown where winds have gusted to 46 MPH. Snow covered Commercial Street in downtown Provincetown is seen at right in an image from the Provincetown Banner webcam. A downed pole on Sea View Avenue in Osterville is causing a sizable outage there.
6 P.M. update: Cape Cod is divided into two zones. The outer Cape continues to rain at this hour but from the mid Cape west, and especially in the Falmouth-Bourne-Sandwich region it is snowing to beat the band. Three inches reported in Falmouth. Those areas still seeing rain will change over to snow. Despite reports of a "bust" in Boston, this storm still means business on the Cape. The heavy wet snow and increasing winds continue to cause concern for power outages. So far NStar reports only a couple of isolated issues. Roads are rapidly becoming treacherous. Two vehicles collided on Route 25 east before the Bourne Bridge around 3:30 p.m. and crews are working a crash on Route 6 westbound just before exit 6 in Barnstable as of this report...Just in: a major power outage is reported in Falmouth. NStar crews are on the scene checking for the trouble. Several minor injuries reported in a crash in Hyannis on Route 28 at Pitchers Way.
3 p.m. update: Web cams on the upper Cape show accumulating snow and CWN's Frank Paparo shows us (above) it is now snowing in the Centerville area. CWN's Kevin Morley reports snow in Dennis now also. Still bare ground in Provincetown. A burst of heavy wet snow with high winds is still expected and this could cause power outages.
