HARWICH - On Monday at approximately 4 a.m., Harwich Police Patrol Officers Robert Hadfield, Peter Petell, Keith Lincoln and Patrick Smith were dispatched to an address on Depot Street in North Harwich for a reported fight in progress involving a knife.
Two vehicles were observed fleeing the scene upon the arrival of the officers. One of the vehicles was detained and a subject inside one of the vehicles was suffering from a non-life threatening stab wound to his hand. That person told officers that the person that stabbed him was Joshua Florance, 21, of Harwich (photo at right). The victim was treated by the Harwich Fire Department and released at the scene.
Officers responded to Florance’s residence and spoke to him and his mother. Mr. Florance said that he was at a gathering in Hyannis earlier in the evening and was asked to leave. At approximately 4 a.m. he saw several people in his front yard. He went outside and was confronted by several people wielding baseball bats. A struggle ensued that resulted in the victim being stabbed by a knife that was recovered at the Florance residence.
Mr. Florance was placed under arrest for Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (knife). He was transported to the Harwich Police Department where he was processed and later transported to the Barnstable County and held on $5,000 cash bail pending his arraignment on Tuesday.
The incident remains under investigation by the Harwich Police Detective Division.
The Harwich Police were assisted by the Dennis Police, the Massachusetts State Police and a Crime Scene Investigation Officer from the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office.
