Barnstable Chief assists in child porn arrest
HYANNIS
- A Mansfield man was charged today in federal court with receiving child pornography. Gerald Deneault, 45, who was previously convicted in Massachusetts of indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14, was arrested at his residence this morning.

The complaint alleges that Deneault received child pornography from a Canadian
company on a number of occasions from June 2008 through February 2011. Based upon an investigation of the Canadian company, federal officers identified Deneault as being a recipient of child pornography. During a search of his home, federal officers seized evidence of Deneault’s receipt of child pornography, including computers and DVDs.

If convicted, Deneault faces a minimum mandatory of 15 years and up to 40 years in prison to be followed by up to a possible term of supervised release of life.

United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz; Kevin Niland, Inspector in Charge of the United States Postal Inspection Service; Chief Samuel F. Thompson, Jr.; and Chief Paul MacDonald of the Barnstable Police Department made the announcement today. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Crowley of Ortiz’s major Crimes Unit.

The details contained in the complaint affidavit are allegations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Rear-ender sends two to hospital

WEST DENNIS
– Shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday a Nissan Altima rear-ended a Toyota Corolla in the eastbound lane of Route 28 at the intersection with Trotting Park Road.

According to an eyewitness account, the Toyota was stopped at the intersection waiting to make a left turn northbound onto Trotting Park Road.

The driver of the eastbound Nissan apparently failed to see the Toyota in time to stop and slammed into its rear end, pushing the vehicle some fifty feet past the intersection and ripping off its rear bumper. The Nissan’s airbags deployed and it sustained moderate front-end damage.

Dennis Rescue transported the two female occupants of the Nissan to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening. The occupant of the Toyota refused treatment.

Traffic on Route 28 was reduced to one lane until the scene could be cleared.

Dennis Police are investigating.
