Under 5,000 customers still in dark
CAPE COD - As of 6 p.m. less than 5,000 customers still had no power. A new problem in Sandwich where a van struck a utility pole. The pole was snapped and live wires fell in the roadway forcing power to be shut off in the area. The driver was not injured.

Fair weather has started to reveal damage along the coastal areas. On the bay side from Sandwich to Brewster there was heavy erosion and many beach parking lots and staircases were washed out. A home on Ellis Landing in Brewster was undermined and three cottages in Sandwich were also damaged by the unprecedented waves in Cape Cod Bay.

As of 2:30 p.m. just over 10,000 customers were still without power from the storm.

As of 5:30 a.m., less than 20,000 NSTAR customers were still in the dark. Most of the major circuits have been repaired, but the tedious work of repairing the smaller street by street outages goes on as the third full day of recovery begins..Westerly winds may gust to 35 MPH today threatening to slow the repairs.

Elsewhere, a dump truck crashed into a utility pole in Barnstable shortly before 5:00 a.m. The crash happened on Phinney's Lane near Kidds Hill Road. The driver was not injured. Fire officials were checking a possible diesel leak from the truck's saddle tank. A section of Phinney's Lane was closed in the area and morning commuters should seek alternate routes. The crash is under investigation by Barnstable Police. A rollover crash was reported a short time later on the ramp from Grandma's Rotary to Route 25 in Bourne. Black ice was reported at that scene and elsewhere. Several other spinouts have been reported as well on the Cape.
