Garbage truck vs pickup in Sandwich

SANDWICH
- A collision Thursday afternoon between a South Shore Disposal garbage truck and a pickup sent the pickup driver to a hospital. The crash happened at the intersection of Route 6A, Tupper Road and Main Street. Police credit the garbage truck driver with swerving at the last moment to prevent a head-on collision, likely sparing the pickup driver serious injury. Traffic already heavy due to the Route 6 construction projects was grid-locked for a time.

Dennis car seat safety inspection a success

WEST DENNIS - Last Saturday, the Dennis Police Department, in conjunction with the Dennis Fire Department, conducted its annual spring car seat check-up event. Over twenty car seats were checked and installed during the event and one car seat was given away. The purpose of these checkpoints is to raise the awareness of the importance of child/passenger safety and to educate and inform parents of the proper installation and use of child safety seats.

It is estimated that 80 to 85 percent of car seats are misused, either because a child is in the wrong seat, the seat is installed wrong, or the child in not placed in the seat correctly.  It should also be noted that motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death for children over the age of six months.

The Dennis Police welcomes parents and caregivers to visit the department to have their car seats installed. This is offered with or without an appointment.
