Top story: Wild crash in Falmouth with a bizarre ending
FALMOUTH - A motor vehicle crash about 12:30 a.m. on Sandwich Road near Greenwood Road sent two to the hospital, one due to unusual circumstances.
It started when a Mitsubishi Diamante sedan, driven by Michael Jester, 25, of Falmouth, traveling north on Sandwich Road, reportedly at a high rate of speed rolled over and struck two utility poles which were sheared in half bringing down the power lines and a street light into the street. The vehicle then caught fire.
Shortly after the crash an SUV also traveling at high speed drove through the crash scene in the same direction. The SUV described as a Jeep Liberty which may be missing a headlight, struck one of the downed power lines and whipped it towards the side of the street where it struck a Good Samaritan trying to assist Jester, throwing her to the ground. The SUV continued on and left the scene of the crash leaving parts behind.
The Good Samaritan, Jessica Way, 28, of East Falmouth was treated at the scene by Falmouth Fire Rescue and transported to Falmouth Hospital where she was treated and released. Jester, who was somehow able to walk away from the crash, was also treated at the scene and transported to Falmouth Hospital with apparent non life threatening injuries. He was arrested by Falmouth Police for operating under the influence of alcohol, assault and battery on a police officer, disorderly conduct, operating negligently to endanger, speeding and marked lanes violation.
Sandwich Road was expected be closed for several hours while Falmouth PD investigated the crash and NStar made extensive repairs and restored all power to the affected homes in the area.
Anyone with information on the Jeep that fled the scene is urged to contact Falmouth Police at (508) 457-2527.
