Alcohol cited in Yarmouthport crash
Crash victim suffers possible heart attack


YARMOUTH
- One person was arrested for allegedly being under the influence of alcohol after a two-vehicle crash in Yarmouthport. The crash happened just before 5 p.m. on Route 6A at Francis Helen Road. A GMC Sierra pickup and a Volvo station wagon collided. The pickup then struck and snapped a utility support pole cracking it into two.

When Yarmouth Police arrived on scene, a crash victim appeared to be suffering a possible heart attack. Officers adminstered emergency care until rescuers arrived and rushed that person to Cape Cod Hospital.

The driver of the Volvo reportedly failed sobriety tests at the scene. Rosalie J. Nelson, 50 of East Dennis was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, operating to endanger and marked lanes violation. Yarmouth Police are continuing to investigate the crash.

Fire damages garage in Sandwich


SANDWICH
 - A fire damaged a garage in Sandwich early Sunday morning.

Firefighters responding to 4 Heather Hill Road shortly before 7 a.m. found smoke showing from the garage.

The fire appeared have started on the floor above the garage.

The garage was detached from the main house which was not damaged.

No injuries were reported.

Mutual aid from Mashpee assisted at the scene while other neighboring towns covered empty Sandwich fire stations.

Investigators are reportedly looking at careless disposal of smoking materials as a possible cause

CO detectors make another save
CENTERVILLE- For the second time in less than a week a carbon monoxide (CO) detector prevented tragedy on the Cape. Centerville, Osterville, Marstons Mills firefighters were called to a Van Gogh Drive residence about 1 a.m. and found elevated levels of the potentially deadly gas. Four residents of the home were evaluated at the scene but declined to go to the hospital. It appears a faulty furnace caused the problem. Last Wednesday, a Truro couple likely survived because a CO detector awoke them and allowed them to escape their home after their furnace also malfunctioned.

Police trying to determine if upper Cape hate incidents related
BOURNE - Upper Cape police want to know if three recent hate incidents may be related and hope the public can help. Swastikas were discovered at the Scusset Beach State Park in Sandwich in the past days and according to the Times other swastikas were discovered at a Monument Beach playground along with a vulgar term spray painted on the front of the Waldorf School in Bourne. The Scusset Park is under the control of the Mass Department of Conservation and Recreation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Bourne, Sandwich or State Police

Harwich teen accused of B&E, stealing firearm
HARWICH - A 17-year-old reportedly confessed to breaking into an unoccupied West Harwich home and stealing a gun and coins. Police say Cameron Hibbert of Harwich was charged with breaking and entering, larceny from a building, malicious destruction of property and possession of a firearm and ammo without a permit.

Shoppers advised to be alert after wallet stolen from elderly woman
HYANNIS 
- Police are advising shoppers to be alert to their surroundings after an elderly woman reportedly had her wallet stolen out of her purse. Barnstable Police say the incident happened Friday afternoon at the Christmas Tree Shop. The woman apparently left her purse in a carriage when the theft occurred. Police add they have already made two recent arrests for similar offenses.

House Moving Traffic Safety Detour Alert
DENNIS/YARMOUTH - Yarmouth, Dennis and Massachusetts State Police Officers will be involved in a special Police Detail Services house-moving assignment that is expected to affect traffic movement this Wednesday morning and afternoon January 27, 2010.

The house will be moved on two trailers in convoy beginning at 9 a.m. from Horsefoot Path in Dennis to its destination on Winslow Gray Rd. in West Yarmouth.

It is estimated that the total time of the move will be four hours.

The route will be:
Horsefoot Path south onto Beach to New Boston Rd then east along Route 6A. The trailers will then turn south onto Old Bass River Rd. then west onto Setucket Rd. Upon entering Yarmouth the trailers will turn south onto North Dennis Rd. then west onto Whites Path to the intersection of Station Ave. where it will turn south on Station Ave. then west onto Old Town House Rd. The trailers will then turn south onto Forest Rd. and then west onto Winslow Gray Rd. ending at #142 Winslow Gray Rd.

During this move motorists and pedestrians can expect significant delays and moving detours along the route as the sections will take the entire width of the roadway.

All motorists are asked to seek alternate routes during the time period of the move and to be extra careful driving through the affected areas as there will be many vehicles and workers in the roadways.

In case of inclement weather the move will be made on Thursday January 28th
