HYANNIS
- An apparent police chase came to a crashing end in Hyannis early Sunday morning. Here's what we know so far: sometime around 1 a.m. Yarmouth Police attempted to stop a vehicle on Higgins Crowell Road, reportedly for traffic violations. The vehicle, believed to be the White Honda Accord in the photos, took off (right to left on the map) turning onto Buck Island Road, then Town Brook Road and onto Route 28 toward Hyannis. From there the vehicle went around the Airport Rotary onto Route 132 past the Cape Cod Mall before crashing into the rear of a Ford Taurus apparently waiting for the light at Independence Drive/Enterprise Road. Four people were injured, at least two seriously. Hyannis firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to free at least one of the occupants. The victims, the suspect driver and three occupants from the Taurus were taken to Cape Cod Hospital. A crash reconstruction team was called to investigate the scene. Route 132 was closed for over two hours during the investigation. The crash may have been captured on video. The traffic lights at the intersection are prominently outfitted with cameras as seen in the bottom photo.

Yarmouth Police have idenfified the suspect driver as Matthew John Clark (right), 23, of West Yarmouth. He was arrested by Ofc. Christopher Marino on the following charges: Operating under the influence of liquor (2nd offense), Operating to Endanger, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (believed to be the automobile), Failing to Stop for Police, Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign, Marked Lanes Violation, Failing to Signal, Speeding and Failing to Wear a Seatbelt.

As of noon there was still no update on the injured parties.
