911 call leads to arrest for pot cultivation and default warrants
SOUTH DENNIS - The Dennis Police report that at approximately 10:21 a.m. Sunday they responded to 110 Acorn Road in South Dennis in response to a 911 call. The Dennis Police had responded to this address for prior domestic disturbances. When Patrolmen Downes and Winn arrived at the house they knocked on the door and a female answered and said everything was fine.

Patrolman Downes was aware of two warrants for Derek Pitcher, 23, who lives at 110 Acorn Road. When the female was asked if Derek was home she said that he hadn’t lived there for months. The officers entered the house to look for Derek and when they walked upstairs they observed broken glass and a telephone on the floor. Looking down the hallway, the officers noticed that a door had been kicked in and was lying on its side. As the officers looked in the room they observed fluorescent lights hanging from the ceiling and a 4-foot marijuana plant growing under the lights. Also in the room was plant growing material including potting soil, plant food, and growing pots.

As the officers continued to look for Derek Pitcher they entered a child’s room where they observed 4 potted marijuana plants thrown into a baby’s play pen. While searching the room for Pitcher they found him lying curled up in a ball behind a child’s bunk bed.  Pitcher was placed under arrest for two default warrants along with cultivating marijuana. He was held without bail and taken to the Barnstable County Correctional Facility where he will be held until Monday pending arraignment at Orleans District Court.
Release furnished by the Dennis Police Department.
