Woman cited in two-car crash


HARWICH - Harwich Police will cite a 23-year-old female driver for failure to stop causing a serious accident at the intersection of Sisson Road and South Street.
The crash happened at 4:30 p.m. Monday sending the male driver of a Chrysler Town & Country van to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening.
The red Dodge Charger the female was driving went through a white picket fence and came to rest on a lawn on South Street.
The young woman refused medical treatment at the accident scene.

Four injured in Osterville crash

OSTERVILLE - Four people were injured in a three-vehicle crash in Osterville about 2:45 p.m. A car rear-ended an SUV on Route 28 at South County Road. A third vehicle was also slightly damaged.Two of the four injuries were described as serious but none appeared life-threatening. Mutual aid ambulances assisted in transporting victims to Cape Cod Hospital.
Route 28 was closed for nearly an hour while crews worked the scene.
A Sheriff's Department Deputy assisted Barnstable Police with the investigation.

Man caught with unlicensed, loaded gun in Harwich
HARWICH - Harwich Police report that on Saturday at 8:45 p.m., the Harwich Public Safety Communications Center received a 911 call reporting an intoxicated male subject with a handgun in the parking lot of Shaw's Supermarket. The caller was the suspect’s girlfriend and she was in the store waiting for the police to respond.
Harwich Police Patrol Sergeant Kevin Considine and Patrol Officers Keith Kannally, Robert Horgan, Rick Buttrick, and Mark Holmes responded and cordoned off the area while attempting to locate the suspect.
The suspect was located walking on Sisson Road by officers. He was ordered to the ground at gunpoint and handcuffed for safety concerns. The suspect was identified as James Aylward, age 51 of Brockton, MA.
The caller told police officers at the scene that she had an argument with Mr. Aylward and went into the store seeking help. She also told officers that Mr. Aylward was in possession of a black handgun which he was carrying in a gym bag.
A search of the area was conducted and a gym bag containing a loaded .380 caliber handgun was located partially covered in mulch and leaves. The gym bag was identified as belonging to Mr. Aylward and he was advised he was under arrest at that time.
Mr. Aylward was charged with carry a firearm without a license, carrying a dangerous weapon, and possessing a firearm without an FID card. He was transported to the stationhouse where he was processed and held on $500 cash bail. He was arraigned Monday in Orleans District Court.

72 unwanted guns taken off the streets of Cape Cod

WEST YARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Police Department released the following statement Monday morning. “We thank everyone who participated in this special event on Saturday. 72 unwanted guns and scores of unwanted ammunition are now out of the closets and off the streets of Yarmouth and Cape Cod and all in only eight hours.

We especially thank Hanlon Shoes, Powderhorn Outfitter, DiParma’s Italian Table, Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce, Yarmouth House Restaurant and Red Face Jacks Pub & Sports Bar for their willingness to help our community and generous support; as well as Cape Cod Times, 95 WXTK, The Register newspaper, WQRC, Cape Cod Today, and every other news and media outlet who helped us spread the word.
