Dog pulled from ice in Centerville
CENTERVILLE - Firefighters were called to rescue a dog that went through the ice on Lake Wequaquet about 2:30 p.m. Officials were relieved that initial reports that a girl had gone through were incorrect. The dog had apparently been missing since Saturday before being spotted. The animal could not be revived. Despite the recent cold snap officials are pleading with people to stay off the ice because it is not safe. Always call firefighters to rescue a pet in distress.

Canadian naval vessels transit Canal

CAPE COD CANAL – The Canadian Navy paid a brief visit to Cape Cod on Sunday morning when the HMCS Kingston (MM 700) and at least one other ship, probably of the same class, transited the Cape Cod Canal. The vessel pictured above is a Kingston-class coastal defense vessel that has served in the Canadian Forces since 1996.
Kingston is the lead ship of her class, which is the name for the Maritime Coastal Defense Vessel Project. She is the first vessel to use the designation HMCS Kingston. The Kingston class coastal defense vessels are mechanical minesweepers in service with the Royal Canadian Navy since 1996. Crewed by sailors from the naval reserve, their main mission is coastal surveillance and training. All twelve ships were built at Halifax Shipyards, in Nova Scotia.
Kingston was laid down on 12 December 1994 at Halifax Shipyards Ltd., Halifax and was launched on 12 August 1995. She was officially commissioned into the CF on 21 September 1996 and carries the hull classification number 700.
It is assigned to Maritime Forces Atlantic (MARLANT) and is homeported at CFB Halifax.
