
HYANNIS - Two people were taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation after this two-vehicle crash in Hyannis.The crash happened around 5 p.m. on Falmouth Road (Route 28) at Corporation Street.
A Ford Windstar van and Nissan Altima collided.
Evening commuters headed toward Falmouth were slowed getting through the area.
Barnstable Police are investigating.

Two treated after small fire at PetSmart


HYANNIS - A small fire broke out at the PetSmart store at the Festival Plaza off Route 132 Monday afternoon. The fire was apparently electrical in nature involving a room air conditioning unit. Two employees were evaluated for possible smoke inhalation. An electrical inspector was called to the scene.

Arrest made in violent home invasion
WEST DENNIS - On Sunday at 7:30 p.m., Dennis Police responded to a Susan Way residence in West Dennis for a report of an armed home invasion. A female resident called 911 to report a male subject armed with a hammer and a knife had entered the home and attacked her boyfriend, striking him with a hammer. The assailant then left the area after an altercation with the male victim. The victim of the assault, a 56-year-old male occupant of the residence, was transported to Cape Cod Hospital last night following the attack, where he was treated for multiple lacerations and contusions to the head and face after being struck with a hammer. The victim was released following treatment.
A second person present in the home, 48-year-old female, was not injured.
As a result of an investigation Dennis Police arrested Robert Shanahan, 29, (photo at right) of West Dennis for the crime.
Mr. Shanahan was located at about 10:20 a.m. Monday walking in the vicinity of Loring Avenue and Ferry Street in West Dennis, about a quarter mile from the location of the incident.
Mr. Shanahan has been charged with Armed Assault in a Dwelling, Assault with Intent to Murder, Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and Threats to Commit Murder.
Mr. Shanahan was arraigned in Orleans District Court and ordered held without bail pending a dangerous hearing.
Police do not believe that this was a random incident and are still investigating.

Rabies clinic scheduled in Wellfleet
WELLFLEET - Due to the recent positive rabid bat specimen tested from Wellfleet, Eastham Veterinary Animal Hospital has reached out to us to have an impromptu rabies clinic. To help pet owners that need to get their pets vaccinated, before the annual rabies clinics at the end of April, which is rabies awareness month. Eastham Veterinary Hospital will hold this extra rabies clinic at their Wellfleet location (Duck Creek Animal Hospital), 2700 State Highwauy (Route 6) on March 2nd from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Eastham Veterinary Hospital in Eastham will also be holding their Spring Rabies clinic on Saturday, March 30th for those who cannot come on March 2nd. One-year rabies vaccinations are only $15. With official proof of current vaccination, a three-year booster will be available, also for only $15.
