November 28, 2012 (HYANNIS) _ Barnstable police cleared out several homeless camps around Hyannis Tuesday.

More than a dozen areas have been targeted in recent weeks as places where homeless people have been living.

The locations – many deep in the woods – were littered with hundreds of bottles, garbage, tents, mattresses and other debris.

Officials did not encounter any of the camp’s residents during the operation.

Barnstable police have been taking down camps each year since 2002.
