September 21, 2011 (YARMOUTH) The owner of several Yarmouth motels is in court today to face contempt charges that he’s been renting rooms on a long-term basis in violation of town ordinances.
Harry Miller – who owns the Cavalier and West Yarmouth Lodgings – lost a court case in January that upheld a bylaw limiting motel room rentals to 30 consecutive days.
Yarmouth gave Miller until the spring to evict the residents in violation of the order – but town attorney Bruce Gilmore says the motel owner never complied.
Some 100 residents in three of Miller’s motels may be impacted by the court case.
Town officials have been working to help them find a permanent place to live.
