July 5, 2012 (CHATHAM) The multiple warnings issued this week about the danger of using illegal fireworks went unheeded in Chatham early this morning.            

An unidentified 31- year old man was critically injured around 2 a-m in a fireworks accident on a Chatham beach.            

The victim was taken to the Chatham Municipal Airport and then med-flighted to Boston. According to our colleagues at Cape Wide News – the man suffered a serious hand injury.            

arlier in the week -- State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan stressed the dangers of using fireworks.            

Between 2002 and 2011 – Massachusetts experienced 804 major fires and explosions from fireworks – causing one death, 18 civilian injuries and 2.5 million dollars in damage.
