July 20, 2011 (ORLEANS) A piping plover that hatched last night has prompted the complete closure of the off-road trails at Nauset Beach south of the main parking lot.           
Beach officials say the close proximity of the nest to the trail is forcing them to close off access.           

It could be up to 35 days before the trails open again – unless the chicks move away from the trail or they don’t feed on both the bay and ocean sides.           

The nest will be monitored in a regular basis over the next several days.
