7/13/2012 (Orleans) It doesn’t appear that off-roaders will be getting on Nauset beach any time soon

July 13, 2012 (ORLEANS) It doesn’t appear that off-roaders will be getting on Nauset beach any time soon.             The Orleans Parks and Beaches Department says there are still four unfledged piping plover nests in the Pochet area that hatched earlier this week.

There are also three active plover nests between Pochet and trail number one that are overdue in hatching.

And with chicks taking 25 to 30 days to fledge after hatching – it could be the middle of August before vehicles get access to the area south of the main parking lot.

The majority of the off-roading summer season has been lost in recent years at Nauset because of the nesting shorebirds.
