December 1, 2011 (CAPE COD) A Cape Cod firefighter has been recognized by Governor Deval Patrick during the 2011 firefighter of the year ceremony.           

Bourne firefighter/paramedic Craig Poirier received the award for outstanding community service yesterday.           

Poirier was recognized for his work in coordinating the department’s holiday fundraising drive.           

Wareham fire Captain Edwin Brundage, Chief Robert McDuffy and firefighter Ralph Bradley received meritorious conduct awards for rescuing a trapped driver in March.           

Medals of honor were given to Wareham firefighters Michael Bird and David Wahlstrom for rescuing a driver from a truck on fire.
